The Riegert Viper, later redesignated RPW.4 Viper under the post-WW2 New Standard, was an armoured scout car which served in the Federal Army for almost 40 years. Fit for light reconnaissance, screening and liaison, the vehicle was initially open-topped, armed with a single pintle-mounted 7.92mm MG49.
The Viper received gradual armament upgrades over its service life: a turret to enclose its gunner and their MG49, which was later upgunned to a 13mm MG51, and eventually a major overhaul in the form of a redesigned turret to house a 20mm autocannon.
